Allied Telesis has launched the AT-GS950/48, its new Gigabit Ethernet WebSmart switch for small office networks and workgroups. The AT-GS950/48 includes 44 10/100/1000T ports as well as four combination ports that can provide either 10/100/1000T or fiber connectivity with the addition of an optional SFP module. The new switch features high-density ports in a compact form factor, making it ideal for deployment in small rooms where space is at a premium. The new AT-GS950/48 enhances the simplicity of an unmanaged switch with easy-to-use, web-based management capabilities to provide a powerful yet cost-effective networking solution.
Affordable, Configurable Networking
The AT-GS950/48 WebSmart switch is designed for smaller networks that require a certain level of VLAN segmentation, Quality of Service (QoS) and security but do not need full network management capability. It enables network administrators to easily configure port-based and tagged (IEEE 802.1Q) VLANs for better performance as well as additional security. With four priority queues, the new switch delivers excellent QoS and is ideal for deployment in networks carrying mixed voice, data, and video traffic. The ATGS950/48 offers further security by blocking access to unauthorized users with IEEE 802.1x user authentication in conjunction with a RADIUS server. For additional performance, Allied Telesis' new switch supports port trunking, enabling multiple ports to operate together to provide higher bandwidth between the switch and another networking device. The new WebSmart switch also offers port mirroring to facilitate the diagnosis of network problems.
With its support for the IGMP protocol, the AT-GS950/48 enables companies to more efficiently manage resources for high-bandwidth video applications and manage membership of IP multicast groups. Other standards supported by Allied Telesis' new switch include STP and RSTP (Spanning Tree Protocol and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol). These protect the network against link failures by providing it with redundant links. The AT-GS950/48 provides just the right level of web-based management, QoS and security functionality to be ideal as a cost-effective solution for smaller networks that do not need full SNMP management.
