Symantec Launches Scheme for Online Shoppers

To heighten public awareness of the increasing threat of identity theft, Symantec is offering online shoppers who purchase the award-winning Norton 360 security solution, an opportunity to win two roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles , USA, to join 'Jason Bourne' as he continues on his quest to regain his own identity.

Between June 19 and July 31, customers that purchase Norton 360 from the Symantec Online Store at http://www.symantecstore.com/in will qualify for the Bourne Ultimatum Contest. One lucky winner from across India , Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand will stand to win two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of the Bourne Ultimatum on August 9, roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles from the country of purchase, and two nights' accommodation. The lucky draw will be held on August 1.

"The Bourne Ultimatum Contest is one of many public education campaigns that Symantec is undertaking, and we hope that this fun tactic can help get a very serious message across to the public."

Some other noteworthy facts from the same report:

  • 72% of threats to confidential information reported in the Asia Pacific and Japan region during the last six months of 2006 could be used to export system data, compared to 63% of these threats reported worldwide. These forms of data leakage can enable an attacker to steal a user's identity or launch further attacks
  • Across the Internet as a whole, threats that export user data made up 62% of the volume of threats to confidential information
  • Keystroke logging threats made up 75% of confidential information
    threats by volume of reports
