VIA develops visiting card size motherboard

VIA Technologies has developed a new small form factor motherboard measuring 7.5 centimeters by 4.5 centimeters, roughly the size of a business card and includes all components required by a personal computer including a processor, a chipset with integrated graphics, memory and video capabilities.

Unveiling the prototype of the new motherboard called Mobile ITX , Mr Wenchi Chen, President and CEO VIA Technologies said " the new motherboard design , which should hit markets next year, will make possible a range of small , powerful computers, such as super smartphones."

"The new motherboard has been designed , moving beyond the traditional desktop and laptops era. This will help design new generation of devices that will be called PC2.0 era, which smaller, lighter, quieter, energy efficient, more portable and affordable" he added. The Mobile ITX motherboard has CDMA chipset.

Mr. Chen also announced launch of VIA ultramobile platform, which has won "best IC" design award during the world's second biggest computer show 'Computex 2007 and VIA nanobook Ultra Mobile Device, which can run for five hours on battery. The company has tied up with Packard Bell to manufacture and market the notebooks in Europe.
