Intex forays into mobile handset market

Intex Technologies has now entered the field of communication through launch of GSM mobile phones. This is a part of company's strategy to offer its consumers many more products under the umbrella of 'convergence'.

The company has launched three feature rich models and has also entered into a tie-up with Buena Vista Internet Group, a part of The Walt Disney Group ("Walt Disney"), the world's leading family entertainment brand, for preloaded Disney content. Intex mobile phones carry exciting sing tones, ring tones, exciting screen savers and aesthetic videos of the endearing Disney characters-Mickey, Minnie and also the stars from Pirates of Caribbean.

All the models are light-weight music phones with user friendly features and sleek designs. Also, they present a unique proposition to all Indian mobile users to have ready access to the highly popular Walt Disney content at a MOP ranging from Rs. 2000-8000/-.

Aura is India 's first metallic phone equipped with a USB web camera feature in its price bracket (around Rs. 8000/-). It has 1 GB memory provided through Micro SD card. An aesthetic handset in appealing royal gold and shining black colors, it is 11.8 mm thick, weighs 90 gms only and has MP3 player & one-touch 1.3 mega pixel digital camera with 5 X 1 zoom facility. It's 800 mAh battery provides it a long battery life. The multimedia content is based on characters from Disney's Pirates of Carribbean. The phone allows a user to be at his creative best. One can use the in-built photo editor- "Photo Artist" - to edit pictures and the "AB Repeater" to track and mix favorite audio sounds. Presence of blue tooth, one in-built speaker, voice recorder and video caller ID further enhance the utility and convenience. To sum up, it could be the best companion for users who are always on move and prefer to carry their data along.

Infi is a phone for music lovers owing to the presence of two in-built speakers. Other features which distinguish Infi from Aura are 128 mb in-built memory, one touch FM radio, 750 mAh battery and one-touch smart digital camera with 4 x1 zoom facility. It is also equipped with 1000 phone book memory. Disney's Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse bring their magic to the content on this phone. With smart silver finish, it has a weight of 68 gms only.

King is a 'candy bar' monochrome phone available with one touch FM radio, soft keys, simplified iconic menu, speed dialing, polyphonic ring tones, instrumental melody composer, stand by time of 300 hrs and a large message- SMS/ EMS up to 612 characters in Hindi & English. The users get Mickey sing tones preloaded on this phone.

Speaking on this new initiative supported by alliance with Walt Disney, Mr. Narendra Bansal, CMD, Intex remarked, "In the last two years, we have diversified into products which have a direct interface with the end users, such as, PCs, TFT-LCD monitors, DVD Players, Home Theatre Systems, etc. Our entry into mobile phones is aimed at satisfying the needs of communication of Indian masses. We have lined up an interesting range of phones with advanced features and good price points. Our association with Walt Disney will hopefully be of great interest to the intelligent, well-exposed and aspiring young generation of India ."

Elaborating on Intex's plans,he said," Starting from North we will spread the range across the country in the coming three quarters of this FY. The venture is supported by a specialized team of service engineers and will soon be expanded. We are also planning to make the range available at our 'shop-in-shop' dedicated counters at 48 reputed chains of hyper markets and specialty stores across India . This year, we are going to add more than 70 such counters. With an aim to clock in a turnover of Rs. 100 crores by 2007-08, Intex aims to capture a place amongst top 5 brands by 2010."
