Plustek has announced the launch of PlusServer MFA1000S, a highly affordable multi-function server for home and small office ( SOHO ) and small and medium enterprise (SME) environments. PlusServer MFA1000S offers diverse functionalities like web email, anti-virus, anti-spam, firewall, Quality of Service (QoS), Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG), voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), SMS, system recovery etc. It also functions as web server, email server, FTP server, PHP MySQL server, NAT server, Samba server, DHCP server, DNS server and Dynamic DNS server.
Free email services do not give a corporate image to the company. PlusServer MFA1000S allows SOHO and SMEs to run their own email services such that company's classified and confidential information is not under third party's safekeeping. It leverages on the strengths of Linux operating system to maximize safety and prevent intrusions, leakages etc. Encrypted data transmission (Secure Socket Layer or SSL mechanism) prevents the password from being captured thereby adding to the security further. All incoming and outgoing emails can be backed up and monitored. For example, supervisors can check emails that the staff receives from job-seeking websites, email exchanges between staff and competitors etc. If a company is using two or more email accounts (multiple domains), it is possible to set all of them on a single PlusServer MFA1000S. This feature can be exploited by several companies sharing the same office floor, building or campus together as it calls for reduced management, lower investment in systems and maintenance costs.
The mail server software comes bundled with PlusServer MFA1000S and supports up to 500 concurrent users. Since it supports IMAP that allows remote online retrieval, you can retrieve important emails even if they are not in the office. They need not waste time on data transfer as large files and unwanted emails can be deleted directly from the server. Besides, employees can send emails to each other without using the internal bandwidth which maximizes the ADSL speed. Automatic forwarding / reply system has been specifically designed for sales, marketing and customer service departments. Emails get forwarded to all related individuals / home workers.
Patented intelligent email-filter function allows junk emails to be detected without opening them. It effectively blocks and filters all the emails from advertising or porn websites. With a simple click, it immediately locks up all instant messaging software such as MSN, ICQ etc., to prevent the loss of classified information. All incoming and outgoing emails are automatically and immediately scanned. When any virus is detected, contaminated emails/files are quarantined to designated folders/mailboxes, and notices will be sent to the senders, recipients, as well as the administrators. The system also updates new virus codes on a daily basis. Internal email exchanges can also be scanned to avoid cross-contamination.
