ZyXEL has announced the availability of its latest Dual Band Wireless Router with Bandwidth management. ZyXEL P-335U provides high speed 802.11g and 802.11a wireless connection. In addition to 802.11g, the P-335U also supports the 802.11a band to provide high speed and transmission quality to bandwidth sensitive applications such as video/audio streaming.
The all new dual band router, P-335U also performs stateful inspection filtering for effective network protection. With the default firewall settings, all outgoing and incoming traffic in the protected LAN is checked. The firewall feature includes TCP/UDP inspection, DoS (Denial of Services) detection and prevention, real time alert, reports and logs. ZyXEL P-335U also manages the limited bandwidth for multimedia applications. "With ZyXEL's exclusive Media Bandwidth Management v2 (MBM v2), the P-335U also provides the most comprehensive way to smartly manage the limited bandwidth for multimedia applications," informed Mr. Mahendra Lalwani, Managing Director, ZyXEL Technology India Pvt. Ltd.
The other important feature is the capability to share Internet Connectivity and Printing Resource. The built-in USB print server allows to share a printer on the network without leaving a host PC on. With four auto-sensing, switched LAN ports and Network Address Translation (NAT) routing, as many as home LAN users can access one broadband connection and share printing resource at the same time.
The new product also enhances Multimedia Support with Wi-Fi MultiMedia (WMM), based on a subset of the IEEE 802.11e WLAN QoS draft standard. This helps the P-335U to improve the user experience for audio, video and voice applications over a wireless network. Without Quality of Service (QoS), all applications on different devices have equal priority to transmit data frames. That works well for applications such as web browsers, file transfers, or emailing, but it is inadequate for multimedia applications (such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video streaming, and interactive gaming). Multimedia applications are highly sensitive to latency increases and throughput reductions, and require QoS. WMM defines four access categories (voice, video, best effort, and background) that are used to prioritize traffic to provide enhanced multimedia support.
