Intex Aims At 115 Crores Turnover From Western India

December 24, 2007

Intex has elaborated its business plans for Western India for FY 2007-08, in the city.

As against a turnover of Rs. 76 Crores last year, the company is targeting Rs. 115 Crores from the region this year. Rs. 45-50 crores (app. 40%) will come from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat - about Rs. 35-40 Crores, Madhya Pradesh- Rs. 25-30 Crores and Chattisgarh- Rs. 5-10 Crores. Amongst the business verticals, PC is expected to contribute app.30 %, Computer Peripherals- 35 % and Consumer Electronics- 30 % of total sales in current financial year.

With a pan-India presence, Intex opened it's first branch in the West at Ahmedabad in 1997. Western India today contributes to about 30% of its total turnover. Maharashtra has the distinction of being the top performing state for Intex in Western India . It has shown substantial growth in the PC segment, year after year. Considering this, the company has chalked out a special growth strategy with focus on Desktops, Notebooks and TFT-LCD monitors.

The company plans to increase sale of these items in the state by 100% , from Rs. 8 crores in 2006-07 to Rs. 16 crores in 2007-08. Similarly, the targeted growth in Consumer Electronics segment is also more than 100 % for FY 2007-08. Intex PC and other peripherals have also been recently approved by DGS&D and rate contract awarded. As a result of this, the company expects to build up sales volumes in government and quasi government organisations, PSU's, educational institutes, etc.

The aggressive growth targeted for the current financial year in this region will be achieved due to several initiatives taken by the company in the last 1½ years:

  • Expansion in branch, resident sales representatives and service network. The company has today a well distributed foot print in the region through its branch-cum-service centres at 6 locations- Mumbai & Pune in Maharashtra; Ahmedabad & Surat in Gujarat; Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Raipur in Chattishgarh; Resident Sales Representatives at Nagpur, Nasik, Kolhapur and Aurangabad; two State Service centers at Pune & Indore and 11 Satellite Service Centers at Amravati, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nasik and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra; Baroda and Rajkot in Gujarat and Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Focus on B and C class towns which will see further penetration in coming months in towns such as Yavatmal, Nanded, Sholapur, Amravati, Sangli, Lonawala, Ulhasnagar, Ahmadnagar, Panvel, Navi Mumbai to name just a few.
  • Various road shows and Resellers/Dealers Business Development Meets, more of which have been planned for Pune, Nagpur and Gwalior.
  • Increase in distributor base from 150 to more than 250.
  • Substantial increase in the PC & Consumer Electronics verticals sales, while continuing to maintain the lead in the traditional business of Computer Peripherals.
  • Foray into retail operation through a 'shop-in-shop' concept. Intex has now opened 23 dedicated counters in Western India, inside some of the premier all India chains of Hyper-markets such as Big Bazaar, Spencer's Hyper, Next, Tata's Croma and Sujata Electronics. Mumbai has 9 counters, Pune 4, Aurangabad 1, Ahmedabad 6, Surat 1 and Indore 2. The retail vertical has given a new dimension to the credibility of brand INTEX and an opportunity to interface directly with end-users.
  • Setting up a 25000 sq.ft. mother warehouse at Bhiwandi to facilitate timely deliveries to branches in western region and in other parts of the country.
  • Acquisition of 2000 sq.ft. Commercial space in Ahmedabad for setting up a Western Region office and Regional Service Centre. The new premises will also house the branch office-cum-service centre-cum warehouse.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Ramesh A. Vaswani, Executive Vice-Chairman, Intex, said, “There is a lot of untapped market potential for Intex products in Western region particularly in Mumbai and greater Mumbai area. Our increasing commitments in this region can be gauged from the investments in leased out and self owned real estate and from the headcount which has gone up from 72 to 152 in the last one year. We expect to add about 60 more team members by the end of this financial year. Very recently Intex has also tied up with a boutique advertising agency in Mumbai to draw up its all-India campaign for ATL and BTL activities.

Our emphasis on pushing sales of end user products is helping considerably in building brand Intex and accelerating further growth. Intex is indebted to its channel partners and the field sales and service teams for their dedicated hard work.”
