Febuary 28, 2007

D -Link has introduced a new line of enterprise-class wireless offering, which includes the industry's first converged wired/wireless Gigabit switches, and two wireless access points (AP) that work in concert with these switches. The switches are code-named DWS-3024 and DWS-3026, and the access points called DWL-3500AP and DWL-8500AP.

"D-Link already enjoys a leadership position in wireless and Ethernet across business, consumer, and SOHO market spaces,” said K. R. Naik, CMD. D-Link India. "These new offerings expand our WLAN product family footprint into the true enterprise-class domain while maintaining D-Link's core value proposition of making innovative networking easy and affordable. The unique features of our new wireless LAN products are expected to improve our competitive position even further.”

Wireless LAN has brought enterprises a great convenience by providing mobility, flexibility, and cost effective deployment without laying physical lines. However, when it comes to medium to large scale deployment of WLAN, most IT departments are spending a lot of time, energy, and corporate resources in making sure their underlying WLAN infrastructure is well-performing and secure. Manageability has also become an issue.

Designed to extend D-Link's current portfolio of WLAN products for homes and small businesses, the new offering targets enterprise customers by solving IT departments' headache of deploying WLAN all at once. These D-Link's new unified wired/wireless access systems offer a full complement of enterprise capabilities for centralized AP management, plug-and-play Access points support, seamless inter-subnet roaming, dynamic power control and channel assignment, and other advanced features. Moreover, this innovative solution comes equipped with all interfaces in gigabit speed, providing full support to gigabit devices as well as readiness of future upgrade to 802.11n equipments.

For example, to support D-Link Wi-Fi VoIP Internet phone handsets and other emerging 802.11 mobile devices, the new D-Link switches deliver an outstanding Layer 3 fast roaming capability. Users are able to seamlessly roam across different geographic locations. Large-scale WLAN deployments are now possible: the D-Link wireless switches can handle up to 192 access points to extend the mobility domain across campus locations, and enterprise operations with multiple buildings.

On top of that, this D-Link wireless switching solution is designed to offload Administrator's daily burden: Automatic AP power and channel adjustment gives a broad umbrella of signal coverage with minimum radio interference; Centralized policy management and visualized GUI of Access Point deployment make it easier to configure and troubleshoot the WLAN. Additionally, armed with Load Balancing across the switch-managed Access Points, this wireless solution provides robust load-sharing and fail-safe capability.

ven with the advanced capabilities of a next-generation WLAN solution, D-Link plans to introduce its new product family with pricing that makes the offering compelling for enterprise customers.
