VIA to focus on Indian Thin-Client market

VIA Technologies has planned to go aggressive in the growing Indian Thin Client market in India. The company plans to boost growth of Thin Client market and introduce new line of energy efficient VIA PC-1 motherboards through establishment of a nation wide distribution and service network.

“The Thin Client market in India is rapidly growing presently and we definitely want to tap this potential. Thin Client is becoming popular as it is energy efficient, reliable and there is no threat to data protection,” said Mr. Sanjay Peer, Director, Channel Sales, India and SAARC, VIA Technologies.

With its low power VIA C7 processor, the company is world's number one supplier of x86 CPUs for the Thin Client market and plans to strengthen ties with leading Indian and MNC Thin Client makers such as HCL, VXL, HP, Neoware, Wyse and Gigabyte to further boost the development of the market. The vendor will be targeting segments like educational institutes, government, health sector, call centres and insurance sector, BFSI and defense sector.

Recently, VXL, one of the world's leading thin client manufacturers adopted VIA C7 processor in its new range of Itona TC43xx Series and TC45xx Series Thin Clients. Combining ultra low power consumption with advanced levels of performance, the new VXL Itona models feature an elegant new chassis with a footprint 40 percent smaller than previous Itona models, while retaining the innovative fanless format that ensures silent operation and the highest levels of reliability.

On the question of potential in Indian Thin Client market for VIA, Peer replied, “Thin Clients represent an exciting opportunity for VIA in India . With our proven technology leadership and strong relationships with leading global and local Thin Client vendors our market share already exceeds 60 percent. Thin Clients based our processor platforms have helped banks, insurance companies and other financial and educational institutions reduce costs on their basic IT infrastructure while increasing the productivity of the users.”

VIA expects to reach 1.25 million Thin Client units by the end of 2010. The vendor also plans to focus on developing business in other emerging verticals such as set-top boxes, broadband access and digital entertainment devices, and medical diagnostic, PoS (Point of Sales), and video surveillance solutions.

“ India is the fastest growing economy after China and with its world class software industry it is emerging as leading power in the global IT industry. We are seeing exciting new innovations that marry India 's world-class software expertise with our processor platforms. We wish to work much more closely with our local partners in vertical markets in the future,” added Peer.

As part of its marketing strategies, the company will be focusing on brand marketing through various media campaigns and channel marketing by introducing various channel partner programmes like SI contact programme/ Reseller loyalty bonus programme/ channel media etc.
